“The Weight Band is the most legitimate band to keep the spirit of Americana Roots Rock alive for audiences of all ages…this music is timeless.” – Glide Magazine
Inspired by the unforgettable roots rock group, The Band, The Weight Band originated inside the famed Woodstock, NY barn of Levon Helm, when Jim Weider (guitar, mandolin and vocals) and Randy Ciarlante (drums and vocals)—both former members of The Band—were performing “Songs of The Band” with Garth Hudson, Jimmy Vivino and Byron Isaacs, now a bassist and vocalist with The Lumineers. Weider, Ciarlante and Isaacs began to carry on the tradition of performing songs from The Band, inviting Brian Mitchell (keyboards and vocals) and Matt Zeiner (keyboard/vocals) to complete their sound. The Weight Band later added Albert Rogers (bass and vocals), Michael Bram (drums and vocals) and Matt Zeiner (keyboard & vocals) to form their current lineup.
The Weight Band presents a dynamic set of classic Americana that draws upon roadhouse rock, funky swamp pop, blues, country soul and folk music. This veteran quintet shares a deep appreciation and knowledge for this music, which Weider describes as the “Woodstock Sound.” The Weight Band continues to serve as its torchbearer, with Shines Like Gold, their second studio album, representing a sublime example of these masterful roots musicians at work. On the album, The Weight Band looks at our troubled world, ponders the passage of time, and ultimately conveys a sense of hopefulness for the future. “There’s a new dawn rising,” they proclaim on the title track, “and it shines like gold.”
