Raging Brass is an 8-piece Afro-Caribbean brass band established after receiving a grant from the Maine Arts Commission in 2014, by trumpeter, composer, arranger and bandleader, Marc Chillemi. Raging Brass explores roots music fueled by the rhythmic and melodic intuition of each player. Their music encompasses a collection of styles from the Caribbean Islands, West Africa, Brazil, and New Orleans that includes; Highlife, Soukous, and AfroBeat from West Africa, Ska, Rocksteady, and Roots Reggae from Jamaica, and AfroCuban styles from Cuba and Brazil.

Raging Brass bounces from danceable beats and eclectic styles into a mix of improvisations unadulterated by joy and passion. Curated by Marc, the cacophony of sound of these instrumentalists is a marvel to behold. This all-star band includes some of Portland’s finest instrumentalists; Rafael Keilt-Fryre on tuba (The Fogcutters/Sly Chi/ Primo Cubano), drummer Sam Yawdik (Roots Rhythm & Dub), Paul D’Alessio on guitar `and vocals (Primo Cubano/The Holy Mackerels), trombonist Eric Ambrose, saxophonists Mike Ayotte and Kyle Hardy, Ryan Hergenhan on percussion (Primo Cubano), and Marc Chillemi on trumpet and vocals (Primo Cubano/MC Jazz Quintet). Raging Brass has shared the stage with major recording artists such as the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, John Brown’s Body.
